Today was GIS day at the University of Illinois! Students submitted posters for the GIS day posted symposium to showcase their research projects that featured GIS. Lorraine and I perused all the posters, had some great chats about students' research and were able to vote on our favorite posters. There were two categories: Design and Research. I voted for the two pictured posters and in fact the internet access poster (above) won the 'best design' prize. Perhaps I have a knack for being a competition judge :) This event was a great opportunity to see different types of geospatial data representation and celebrate the amazing applications students found for this method. Visualization of data is key for education, outreach and understanding of environmental (& of course non-environmental) issues. This was a really fun event to partake in at UIUC and has inspired me to get back to GIS.
